Each of those four points works for kids as well. The thing with kids is you create the background knowledge with them. The ABC song is an apt example, but that's not really teaching them their ABC's. It's teaching them a song. Once the song is in place, you tie it to the symbols and the symbols to sounds. All the while, you have to make it clear to them that they are eventually going to learn to read and write, because that song gets old after a while. (kind of like punching or push-ups or adrenaline drills.) I appreciate the point about teaching adults, but kids who are taught without those same principles are not likely to learn very much. There are plenty of people who can sing the song who can't read.

-GeoffAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14473417.post-27877719820330506902013-01-12T03:47:17.414-08:002013-01-12T03:47:17.414-08:00A further INTJ vote...by all accounts, under press...A further INTJ vote...by all accounts, under pressure, I move to ENTJ, the scores were very close! Usually the model for children is just slapped onto the one for adults.

I have a whole long list of ways I'd like to change that, and how I'd like to teach in my own environment. Martial arts for adults ought to be for, well, adults.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11379685641338041168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14473417.post-55239385956039072122013-01-08T19:38:35.666-08:002013-01-08T19:38:35.666-08:00This is great.
