"Facing Violence"

The new book ships in less than two weeks, if my math is correct. I should be able to bring a few to Athens at the end of the month. My publisher has express mailed me the first two off the press and they should be here, oh, about now. That's cigar worthy.

I'm not sure what it means, but on pre-orders alone, "Facing Violence" is currently ranked #7858 on Amazon out of more than eight million books. According to the secret author page, it hit a high rank of #5748 Wednesday.

Those are numbers. My assessment, as the author, is that "Meditations on Violence" was more personal and visceral than "Facing Violence" but that "Facing Violence" is infinitely more practical and useful. In the end, as always, the readers will decide.

I went to order this on Amazon Uk & its showing as available not pre-order. So is out? Would guess not judging by your post, Rory.

  5. Question:

Without the gut check of "Meditations on Violence" on looking at the incongruities of martial arts training and real world assaults, how much of "Facing Violence" would of been accepted or considered by the larger martial arts community? That is assuming that is who the majority of people buying your book are.

The first book defined the problem, and the second book offers some solutions. A nice progresion.

  6. New book didn't bother me any more than the first one did, and I'm pretty much the most heretical guy here.

    Get it. Read it.

  10. Congratulations :) Great achievement.

Am also in the UK - it's showing as available but shipping in 1-3 weeks so I guess that covers the "shipping in 2 weeks time" thing.

  12. Rory,
I am not an expert though I believe the two Amazon rankings you mention are to be welcomed as very good news indeed.

Put another way--you have just picked up more momentum and freedom of movement. All the years of the slog are paying off.

Your stock value just increased a great deal. I think you get my drift.

It is fun and funny that you are truly clueless re the meaning of those low number rankings. It's like golf---hope for the lower numbers.

Independent contractor gigs and opportunities have broadened giving you some decent breathing room.

Sill your mind and meditate on violence in silence.

"Facing Violence" will be more accessible and fun than "Meditations".....kind of like evidence you didn't get stuck navel gazing. You are back with more fun and immediacy.

    Good time to be you.

  14. My book arrived this afternoon.

Already read several chunks of it. Great stuff. I especially appreciate some of the statements in the sidebar on lifestyle changes, particularly "Train in something that makes it a joy to move."

  16. Arrived in the mail yesterday -- but I was too beat after work to even bother getting the mail, so I picked it up this morning. Flipped through, read a few pages, and looking forward to sitting down and actually reading it.

Anybody got useful tricks for occupying a toddler so Daddy can read? ;)
