What made you want to switch to Patreon, Rory?
Anonymous. It seems most bloggers quit over tiny things. There was a comment on one of the last blogs and it was, simply, gibberish. And the person who wrote it was well-meaning and smart and had been indoctrinated to the point that he or she couldn't recognize gibberish when spouting it. I had an existential crisis moment of, "If this is what passes for discourse, I'm done." I turned in my human card and quit writing publicly almost completely.
Gibberish is certainly annoying, but I don't understand why you'd have the expectation that all of the comments you get on the Internet are worth reading.
That seems like setting yourself up for disappointment.
Beyond that, given that you often don't respond to direct questions in the comments anyway...why get invested in them?

As for him and his crew not standing up against the system, they ARE the system. MacYoung’s Facebook page is a sewer of misogynistic, racist post while he masquerades as a poor man's (and lesser educated) Jordan Peterson. Kasey changed his last name on social media to “Odinson” a popular white supremacist reference, all during the unrest sparked by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, just miles away from his small town cop jurisdiction. He has been vocal in the past of his support for Bob Kroll.
Their "VioTribe" clan caters to frightened small town, mid western white people who take #violencevacations to quell their fragile little nerves. They are part of the rotten culture that explains to "nice respectable white people" why police brutality is ok.
Rory is who he is, he had original things to say in 1 or 2 books - the rest is him hanging onto to an identity of "original thinker" that has long since expired.
